A Friendly Reminder
As someone who doesn't consider herself as artistic or creative, this activity actually went way better that I thought it would. My hand automatically did what it had to do before my mind actually thought of something more complicated. In just about ten minutes, I was able to come up with this output:
The photo above shows my take on Calligraphy - a visual art related to writing. Written are the words pahuway anay, which roughly translates to "rest for a while". I think that the main inspiration behind this work are the personal frustrations that I currently have. Being able to express and address my feelings in an artistic way makes me feel like I can also use art as a platform to inspire those who are currently undergoing similar situations as I am. As a "creative", it makes me feel hopeful that my art could actually have an effect other people's lives and not just bring something "visually appealing", but shallow to the table.
Calligraphy is not necessarily the art form that I really wanted to make. In fact, my first thought was that I was going to draw instead of write. However, what was holding me back was my lack of confidence in my drawing skills - I'm not saying that I am confident with my calligraphy, but it is something that I have been doing for the past few years as a pastime activity. I'm too anxious to try and see what I can actually create through drawing and I am also insecure about showing whatever I might come up with, knowing that there are better artists in the class who can actually draw. Nevertheless, this activity, in general, was a great outlet for me as an individual and as a "creative" to showcase my "skills" and express my feelings in a way that could impact not only myself, but also others.
