Shapes

I have read somewhere online that when you don't know what to paint, paint the sky. The clouds were dark that day and I suddenly had the thought of wanting to see a clear sky. I thought of pulling a Jackson Pollock. "A clear sky in the style of Jackson Pollock," I said. I didn't know how that would turn out but it sounded like a good idea but guess what? It didn't manifest into anything at all. That idea flew to who knows where as soon as my eyes landed on a blank page of my sketchbook.

I was suddenly at a loss on what to do. I saw everyone in class trying to do at least something and there I was, just sitting. I looked around trying to find an inspiration but the walls were white and the artworks displayed were too difficult for my level. I looked around again and there it was. My classmate's dress. It may sound funny but I really liked the patterns on it. I thanked my past self who thought of printing dots on some pages of her sketchbook. I quickly took a ruler and a pencil out of my bag and the rest was history.

There were many things I learned through the whole process and one of them is to not think too hard about art. That we don't need to think about what kind of complicated artwork we have to create in order to impress people. Sometimes you just have to sit there and let inspiration take over you. My shapes woven into some kind of pattern may not be something that will make someone scroll back at it while looking through the blog but for me, this piece is something I'm pleased to call my work.
